PNB Scam-Accused Mehul Choksi Goes Missing in Antigua

Mehul Choksi, accused in the Punjab National Bank scam and declared a fugitive, is missing from Antigua. Choksi’s lawyer Vijay Aggarwal said that his family is worried and asked me to meet him. The Antigua Police is investigating this. Antigua police have been investigating it since Sunday evening.

According to the police statement, Choksi was last seen in a car before leaving the house at around 5.15 pm, which was later recovered. Since then, there is a possibility that Mehul Chowki has fled from Antigua to Cuba.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was making every effort to bring Mehul Choksi from Antigua to India. The government of Antigua was also being pressurized by the Government of India. In such a situation, a source related to CBI told ANI that he has taken cognizance of the news of the disappearance of diamond trader Mehul Choksi. The facts are being confirmed.

Choksi is wanted in a case of alleged fraud of Rs 13,500 crore with Punjab National Bank (PNB). He has been living in this country since January 2018. The Royal Police Force said that in search of Choksi, the police has issued a statement with his picture so that people can get information about him.

Choksi acquired citizenship of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017, before fleeing to India in January 2018. Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are alleged to have defrauded Punjab National Bank (PNB) for allegedly cheating Rs 13,500 crore in connivance with some bank officials. Nirav Modi is currently lodged in a London jail. The CBI is investigating against both.
