In the direction of India’s commitment to boost its defense competencies especially due to intensified tensions with Pakistan, French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have signed agreement to manufacture fuselage components of the Rafale fighter aircraft in India.
• It will be first time that fuselage components of the Rafale will be produced outside France. For production in India, Hyderabad will be the place for global defense manufacturing ecosystem. Production will start in financial year 2027-28 with production capacity of two full fuselages monthly.
• “This is a game changer for India’s aerospace ecosystem,” said by Sukaran Singh, CEO of TASL. “In light of regional challenges, including the recent stand-off with Pakistan, building Rafale fuselages in India represents not just industrial growth but strategic autonomy. It demonstrates our ability to contribute to critical platforms that safeguard national security.”
• Dassault Aviation chairman stated it as “milestone” in the company’s global strategy. He said, “India is the ideal partner in our efforts to build a more resilient supply chain. With TASL’s growing capabilities, this partnership will ensure continuity, quality and strategic depth to the Rafale programme.”
Impact of Production of Rafale Fuselage in India
The main impact of this move is enhancement of India’s security system. India is already having good investments in defense equipment but there will be more addition in the defense system. Due to core manufacturing in India, India will not be just a customer of Rafale but also a manufacturer and India will be self-reliant. The Hyderabad facility, a major investment in India’s aerospace ecosystem, will create high-skilled jobs for many persons. It will also work as a main pillar for future indigenous and global defense projects. Dependency on external suppliers will also be decreased.
The agreement between Tata and Dassault will increase the defense power of India. It will make India self-reliant in defense and will also provide jobs for many people.
