Stock Market 2022 Holidays: On account of Muharram, there will be no trading activity at stock market today. As per the information available on the official BSE website, trading on BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) will remain closed for entire session on Tuesday i.e. 9th August 2022.
Markets are slated to remain closed on a total of three days in the month of August due to various occasions. Aside from the Muharram holiday, trading will remain suspended on August 15 (Monday) as India will celebrate its 76th Independence Day, and on August 31 (Wednesday) for the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
One of the most significant months in the Islamic calendar, Muharram marks the beginning of a new Islamic year. The Prophet Muhammad refers to this month as “the Sacred Month of Allah” and it is also referred to as Muharram-ul-Haram. Muharram, one of the four holy months designated by Allah, is particularly significant because it is the only month in which fighting is prohibited. Its name, Muharram, means “forbidden”. The practice of fasting on Ashura was known even before the rise of Islam. Some of them even break fast after evening, when they pay respect to Imam Hussein.
Stock Market Holidays in 2022
