Stock Market Today: Asian shares trade lower as SGX Nifty predicts gloomy start

Stock Market Today: In the past eight days, the benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex has increased 2,779 points to 60,392, while the larger NSE Nifty has increased 861 points to 17,812. Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 22 points, or 0.12 per cent, lower at 17,857.50, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for negative start on Thursday. Indicating an uptrend continuation pattern, Nifty formed a reasonable positive candle on the daily chart with a minor lower shadow.

Oil eases as investors remain cautious on recession fears

Although investors remained cautious due to persistent worries about a U.S. recession and declining oil demand, oil prices dipped in early trade on Thursday after increasing for the previous two days. By 01:16 GMT, Brent crude had decreased by 19 cents, or 0.2%, to $87.14 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate had decreased by 16 cents, or 0.2%, to $83.10.

The Federal Reserve’s March policy meeting minutes revealed that numerous FOMC members were concerned about the regional bank liquidity situation, which contributed to a decline in U.S. markets on Wednesday.

Stock Market Today: Tokyo stocks open lower tracking US falls

Following Wall Street’s declines, Tokyo markets opened lower on Thursday after US Federal Reserve meeting minutes revealed its experts had predicted a “mild recession.” Early trading saw a 0.32 percent, or 88.90 points, decline in the benchmark Nikkei 225 index while the larger Topix index down 0.26 percent, or 5.20 points, to 2,001.72.

Rupee gains 1 paise to close at 82.11 against US dollar

On Wednesday, as market investors stayed on the sidelines in anticipation of the release of the retail inflation data, the rupee stabilised in a constrained range and ended the day 1 paise higher at 82.11 against the US dollar.
