Central Government has called an all-party meeting over Sri Lanka crisis

The Central Government has called an all-party meeting on Tuesday on the Sri Lanka crisis, in which Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar will give information about the situation there.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi gave this information. Tamil Nadu parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) demanded India’s intervention in the neighboring country’s affairs during an all-party meeting called on Sunday ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament.

During Sunday’s meeting, both the DMK and the AIADMK raised the issue related to the situation in Sri Lanka and the Tamil population in particular in that country. DMK leader M Thambidurai told reporters after the meeting that India should intervene to resolve the Sri Lanka crisis. DMK leader TR Baalu also sought India’s intervention in resolving the current situation in Sri Lanka.

On Sunday, 100 days of the ongoing protest movement in Sri Lanka was completed. Due to the violent agitation, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to resign. Now amidst the economic crisis, the people of the country are waiting for the formation of the new government. It is noteworthy that Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his residence shortly before the attack by protesters at the end of last week. At the same time, on Thursday, he resigned from the post of President.

Gotabaya’s mismanagement is to blame for Sri Lanka’s financial turmoil, which has left the country’s 22 million people starved of food, fuel and medicines since the end of last year. The campaign to oust Rajapaksa, conducted mainly through posts on Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

Gradually the movement took a fierce form, as a result of which the members of a family who had been in power for years had to walk away from power.
