Chess Olympiad 2022: PM Inaugurates World Chess Olympiad In Chennai

Chess Olympiad 2022: While welcoming the players from all over the world to participate in the 44th Chess Olympiad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the tournament on Thursday, mentioned India’s tradition of ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ and said that no one loses in games because there are only winners and future winners.

The 44th Chess Olympiad, being held for the first time in India, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in a colorful program depicting the culture of Tamil Nadu.

Referring to the great saint Thiruvalluvar of Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Modi said, Saint Thiruvalluvar had said that ” the only goal of earning a livelihood and building a house is to be full of hospitality. We will do our best to make your stay a pleasant one and show you your best game.”

He said, sports is beautiful because it has the power to connect people, society. It encourages teamwork. Two years ago the corona epidemic started and the world came to a standstill, but at such times sporting events connected the world. Every tournament gave an important message that we are stronger together.

The Commonwealth Games are also starting from today in Birmingham. Prime Minister Modi said, today is a good day for international sports. The 44th Chess Olympiad is starting here and thousands of players are participating in the Commonwealth Games in Britain. I wish all the best to all the players gathered here. I hope you will go with good memories of India. India will always welcome you with an open heart. No one loses in games. There are only winners and future winners.

The Chess Olympiad is being held at Mamallapuram, 50 km from here. For the first time the Olympiad is being held in India and record players are participating in it. There will be 188 players in the open category and 162 players in the women’s category. Its torch relay has reached here through 75 cities in the last 40 days.

He further said, in the 44th chess tournament, many things are happening for the first time in many ways. This is happening for the first time in India, the birthplace of chess.

This is happening in Asia for the first time in three decades. For the first time most countries and teams are participating in it.
