India has been reporting surge in covid-19 cases for over one week now. In the last 24-hour, the country has recorded 15,510 new cases, taking the overall tally to 1,11,12,241, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. With 106 more people dying due to the virus, the overall fatality tally has mounted to 1,57,157, the Ministry added.
The positivity rate in the country has been riding at the alarming rate. The new developments have now increased to 1.52 per cent. As per the ministry’s data, there are 1,68,627 new cases as 11,288 more people were discharged in the last 24-hour.
Till now, 1,07,86,457 persons have been discharged so far. The recovery rate has reduced to 97.07 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of samples tested per day have also scene a declining rate. On Sunday, just 6,27,668 samples were tested. As of now, the cumulative tests done by Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) so far stands at 21,68,58,774.

It was a moment of great surprise for P.Niveda, nursing officer at AIIMS here, when she was asked to administer the first shot of vaccine to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday morning.
The phase 3 of Covid vaccination started on Monday and the Co-WIN portal also started the self registration for the 27 crore eligible for the shots, who are above 60 and those above 45 years with comorbidities.
The Union Health Ministry today clarified that the CoWIN app available on Play Store was not meant to register for or book Covid-19 vaccinations. That can be done only through the portal.
Meanwhile, the total number of global Covid-19 cases has topped 114 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.53 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
