Devisingh Shekhawat, husband of former President Pratibha Patil, died on Friday at the age of 89. Sources close to the family said that Shekhawat breathed his last at a hospital in Pune. He had a heart attack. He was admitted to the hospital a few days back. He died at 9 in the morning due to heart attack. Shekhawat is survived by his wife Pratibha Patil and two children – a son and a daughter.
PM Modi expressed grief
On the demise of Devi Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and expressed his condolences. PM Modi tweeted, “My thoughts are with former President Smt. Pratibha Patil ji and her family on the demise of Devisingh Shekhawat ji. He left a mark on the society through his various community service endeavors. om Shanti.”
NCP chief expressed grief
NCP chief Sharad Pawar also condoled Shekhawat’s death by tweeting his photo. Pawar wrote in a tweet, “Deeply saddened by the demise of senior Congress leader and renowned agricultural scientist Shri Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat ji.” The veteran leader served as the first Mayor of Amravati and as the first gentleman of India, he was a strong support system for Mrs. Pratibha TaiIn another tweet, he wrote, “My heartfelt condolences are with the Patil family in this hour of grief.” May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Former President Ramnath Kovind also expressed grief over the demise of Devisingh Shekhawat. He tweeted, “I am shocked to know about the sudden demise of Devisingh Shekhawat ji. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with Mrs. Pratibha Singh Patil and her family.”
