Hariyali Teej 2021: Hariyali Teej special for women in Indian Culture, know its importance and way to worship

According to the belief, Shiva and Parvati reside on earth throughout the month of Shravan. Lord Shiva provides desired fruits to his devotees.

According to the Hindu Panchang, green teej is celebrated every year on the third day of shukla paksha of the month of Sawan. On this day, women fast for the longevity of their husbands and the well-being of the family. This year, the festival of Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11th August.

The festival is celebrated with joyousness in north India. As the month of Sawan approaches, the sky is surrounded by black clouds and nature takes a new form as soon as the rain falls. We all witness greenery in our surroundings. It seems that nature is also wrapped in its beauty as if waiting for the same time.

Symbol of love

This festival deepens the love of husband and wife in Indian tradition and also conveys the message of sacrifice for each other. On this day, virgin girls fast and wish for a bridegroom like Shiva, while married women wish their suhag to be intact from Lord Shiva and Parvati. This festival is a festival of faith and trust among husband and wife.

Mother Parvati had performed severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband, Lord Shiva accepted Mother Parvati as his wife on the day of The Hariyali Teej of shukla paksha of the month of Sawan. On the day of Hariyali Teej, it is important to wear green bangles, green clothes, do sixteen embellishments(solah shringar) and apply mehndi. Newly married girls are called to their maternal house (pihar) from their in-laws when the first sawan arrives after the wedding. Singara is sent from the in-laws on this festival in which clothes, jewellery, makeup items, mehndi, ghewar and sweets etc. are sent.

Method of worship 

On this day, women worship shiva and parvati statue made of clay.All the ingredients of suhag  is collected and decorated on a plate and offered to mother Parvati . Please Lord Shiva by enjoying sweets. Offer clothes to Lord Shiva and listen to or read the story of Teej Mata. These idols should be flown into the holy river or reservoir after the puja. Women who worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati on this day get happiness.
