6 passengers from ‘risky’ countries found COVID positive: Maharashtra Government

Six international travelers from ‘at risk’ countries have been found to be COVID positive. Maharashtra Health Department has given this information on Wednesday morning. These travelers have come from countries where cases of the highly infectious variant Omicron have been confirmed.

The Health Department said that all the six people found positive were either asymptomatic or mildly asymptomatic. The department has said that samples of all the infected have been sent for genome sequencing, so that Omicron infection can be detected in them. Apart from these, contact tracing of these six passengers is being done.

Of the six infected, three have been traced to Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivali and Mira-Bhayandar areas, while the fourth is a resident of Pune. Two other people coming from Nigeria have been traced from Pimpri-Chinchwad.

In view of the threat of the Omicron variant, from midnight tonight in India, the government has implemented new travel guidelines on international arrivals from “at-risk” countries. The Maharashtra government said that all international travelers arriving from “at-risk” countries of the Omicron variant will have to compulsorily stay in seven-day quarantine.

The government order states that passengers found positive in the RT-PCR test will be shifted to the hospital, while those who report negative will have to stay in home quarantine for an additional seven days. On reaching Maharashtra, these passengers will have to undergo RT-PCR test three times that is on the second, fourth and seventh day of landing.

According to the new guidelines, international travelers traveling to the state will have to provide details of the countries they have visited in the last 15 days. On arrival they will be cross-checked by immigration.
