Covid-19: 11 Omicron sub-variants found in overseas passengers, all previously recognised in India

Covid-19: Between December 24 and January 3, tests at international airports and seaports found eleven distinct sub-variants of Covid-19 Omicron in travellers from throughout the world. 124 samples from foreign visitors tested positive out of a total of 19,227 tests, and they were all quarantined.

The government of India has reacted by taking steps in light of the rising number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. All overseas travellers, including those leaving from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand, are subjected to coronavirus testing.

New instances of Covid-19 in India

According to data from the Union Health Ministry, there were 188 new instances of Covid-19 in India on Thursday, up from 175 the day before.

The number of active cases has decreased to 2,554, which represents less than 0.01% of all positive cases in the nation. Weekly positivity was 0.12%, and the average daily optimism was 0.10 percent.

There have been 4,41,46,055 successful recoveries in total so far, with 201 of those taking place in the previous day. India’s recovery has a 98.80% success rate as a result.

A total of more than 91.15 crore tests were conducted within the same time period in 1,93,051 different places across the nation.

About Vaccination

As of Thursday morning, 61,828 immunisations had been administered in the previous day, bringing India’s Covid-19 immunisation coverage to over 220.12 crore.

According to the ministry’s website, more than 212 crore doses of the Covid vaccine have already been administered.
On September 28, 2020, the number passed the 60 lakh level. On October 11, it passed the 70 lakh mark. On November 20, it passed the 90 lakh mark. On December 19, 2020, it passed the one-crore mark.
