Dr Reddy's Laboratories that has collaborated with INMAS, a lab of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), to make anti COVID drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) has shared some important information. The first batch was was dispatched on Monday by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
The Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) has supported it for emergency use as a subordinate treatment in moderate to extreme Covid patients recently.
Hyderabad based Dr Reddy's said 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) the anti-Covid drug is expected to launch in the market by mid-June.
Dr Reddy's further clears that the drug is not yet available in the market and its per sachet price remains to be announced.
“Price is being determined with a view to making it accessible and affordable to as many patients as possible, and will be announced soon,” the statement read.
However commercial launch and supply of 2-DG to major government and private hospitals is about to commence in mid-June.
Notably, Dr Reddy's has gave warning to agents selling spurious or illegal products in the name of 2-DG.
2-DG is an oral anti-Covid drug that can be taken only upon doctors suggestions to hospitalised moderate to severe Covid-19 patients. It can be given as add on therapy along with existing standard of care.
