Government working to level number of medical UG and PG seats

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Saturday that the government is working towards equalizing the number of seats in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in medicine in the next four years so that All MBBS graduate students can do post graduation.

‘Doctors are needed to open a dispensary’

The Union Minister said, ‘When we open the dispensary, we need doctors. Eight years ago, there were 51,000 MBBS seats in India. Now we have 1,00,226 seats in undergraduate courses and postgraduate seats have increased from 34,000 to 64,000.’

‘We have set this goal’

“We aim to equalize the number of MBBS UG and PG seats so that all our doctors get an opportunity to get registered in PG course and get better medical education,” Mandaviya said.

This invitation was given to health professionals of Indian origin

Mandaviya invited health professionals of Indian origin to invest in research and chain of hospitals in the country with ‘fixed business’.

The Union Minister was addressing the 13th Annual Convention of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
