Curd rice, which is also known as dahi chawal, is a popular dish in Southern India. The dish, made from curd (dahi) and rice (chawal), provides a light and refreshing meal that is best known for its simplicity and amazing health benefits.

What Ayurveda Says About Curd Rice and Bloating?

In Ayurvedic terms, curd rice is not just a comfort food but also a balancing act in a bowl. It is widely believed that the cooling quality of curd pacifies pitta dosha (the fiery energy and stabilizes vata (the mobile, airy one).

A potent digestive and restorative dish, curd rice becomes samskarita ahara (food that hs been made more sattvic and refined.

Dr. Shubham Vatsya, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Fortis Vasant Kunj, says curd rice is gut science in action. He said dahi chawal is a clinically smart staple food that contains cooling-resistant starches and probiotic that help regulate gut inflammation.

Dr. Vatsya added that dahi chawal is an excellent food to prevent or treat bloating, acidity or a burning sensation after every meal. Also, this quick-to-prepare meal increases short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate in the gut to support immunity and digestion.

In addition to these advantages, curd rice is also good to reduce stubborn abdominal and visceral fat since it is low in calories and high in protein. Curd rice prevents overeating by promoting a sense of fullness while including beneficial bacteria and lactic acid that aid digestion.
