Alia Bhatt Viral Video: Just days after social media dissected every second of her BAFTA appearance, Alia Bhatt has addressed the viral clip that triggered online debate. The actor, who attended the 79th British Academy Film Awards as a presenter, found herself trending for an unexpected reason.
Alia took the stage at the BAFTA 2026 ceremony to present the award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Her presence at the global event was widely appreciated. However, it was a short interview after the ceremony that grabbed headlines.
In the now-viral video, Alia was asked to name a film with the biggest plot twist. After a brief pause, she answered Gone Girl. That small hesitation was enough for social media to explode. While some viewers felt her response was completely normal, others analysed her facial expressions and body language, sparking unnecessary chatter.
DON'T MISS
Soon, memes and commentary flooded platforms like Instagram and X. The moment was labelled awkward by some, while others questioned her confidence on an international stage.

Alia has now responded to the controversy. In a conversation with fashion commentator Diet Sabya, she questioned why the clip became such a huge talking point. She asked, “Why is it being talked about so much? Is it because of my expression?”
The actor went on to explain what was happening in her mind during that interview. She clarified that she genuinely believes Gone Girl has one of the best plot twists. However, she has not revisited the film in years.
“So basically I really think it is the best twist but I have not liked watching it in… when did it release? 10 years ago? So I have not watched it after that.”
She further explained her thought process during the interaction. “So when she was like, ‘that monologue,’ I was like ‘haan’ (yes) and I was going back in my head that oh ya, ‘that monologue, correct correct correct’ and she was mentioned cleaning the floor and I was like like ‘haan’ (yes) so I was like going back in time and I guess that’s what you saw. I am a cool girl. I am a sweet girl. But I could be… total… I mean I can be like… I am more sweet than I am cool. Actually, I don’t think I am cool. I am uncool girl, my sister would say that,” she added.
Alia Bhatt’s Work Front
Despite the brief backlash, Alia Bhatt continues to expand her global footprint. On the work front, she is preparing forAlpha, a female-led spy thriller from the YRF Spy Universe. The film is directed by Shiv Rawail and also stars Bobby Deol and Sharvari Wagh.
The project is expected to release next year and has already generated buzz among fans of the franchise.
