Human Rights Day 2022: Human Rights Day is celebrated annually around the world on 10th December every year. The date was chosen to honor the United Nation’s General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of major achievements of the new United Nations.
Human Rights Day celebrated on 10th December every year
The formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950, after the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) inviting all states and interested organizations to adopt 10 December every year as Human Rights Day.
Human Rights focuses on fundamental rights and freedoms that people are globally entitled to simply by virtue of being humans.
This year marks the 74th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR and the 72nd Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day Theme
On December 10,2023 the world will mark the 75th anniversary of the UDHR. In light of this upcoming milestone , a year-long campaign will be launched on December 10 this year to showcase the UDHR, emphasizing on its legacy, relevance and activism. The campaign will be centered around the theme, “Dignity, Freedom and Justice For All”.

Significance of Human Rights Day
The day is normally marked by high level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues. Besides, it is traditionally on 10 December that the five yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel Prize are awarded. Many governmental and non-governmental organizations active in the human rights field also schedule special events to commemorate the day, as do many civil and social cause organizations.

Fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all of us are entitled. It guarantees the rights of every individual everywhere , without distinction based on nationality, place of residence, gender , national or ethinic origin, religion , language or any other status.
Although the Declaration is not binding document, it inspired more than 60 human rights instruments which together constitute an international standard of human rights . Today, the general consent of all United Nations Member States on the basic Human Rights laid down in the Declaration makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of Human Rights in our daily lives.
