In Florida and North Carolina, the death toll from Hurricane Ian has exceeded 70. Of these, 45 suspected deaths have been reported in Florida alone. Hurricane Ian made landfall in the US state of South Carolina on Friday after wreaking havoc in Florida on Wednesday and Thursday. It then moved to south-central Virginia on Saturday.

On Sunday, NBC News gave this information on the basis of official data and its report. NBC said that the death toll from the storm had reached 77 on Saturday and that figure could rise. US media said Friday that at least 45 suspected deaths were reported from Hurricane Ian in Florida.

Florida’s director of emergency management, Kevin Guthrie, said the state had one confirmed death from Hurricane Ian while 20 unconfirmed deaths were under investigation. According to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, at least 1,100 people have been rescued since Ian arrived in Florida on Wednesday. Many people are still said to be missing due to the storm.

19 lakh people of the state are forced to live in darkness due to the storm. According to US media, there were more than two lakh power cuts in South Carolina and more than 1.38 lakh in North Carolina on Friday. US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in South Carolina and said Hurricane Ian could prove to be the deadliest hurricane in Florida history.
