A new controversy has erupted regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Actually during the visit, Rahul had a meeting with some Catholic priests on Friday.
Controversial pastor George Ponnaiah was also present in these priests. The video clip of this meeting is going viral. In this, Rahul Gandhi is heard asking the priest that ‘Is Jesus Crite (Jesus Christ) a form of God? Is it true? In response, Ponnaiya says, ‘Yes he is the real God, not like Shakti (Hindu Goddess).’
Political turmoil has erupted over Rahul’s question and the statement of the priest. While the BJP has termed it as ‘Bharat Todo Yatra’, the Congress has said that it is another mischief of the BJP frustrated by the yatra. Ponnaiah also replied to Rahul that God revealed to him (Jesus) as a man. He is a real person, not Shakti, so we see him as a human being. Tamil priest Ponnaiah has a history of making controversial and provocative statements.
He was arrested in July last year at Kalikudi in Madurai for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, ministers in the DMK government and others. Rahul Gandhi had met Ponnaiya at the Muttidichan Parai Church. Where Rahul had camped on Friday morning during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
BJP’s national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla has attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over George Ponnaiah statement. Poonawalla said that this journey has become a Bharat Todo Yatra. He said Ponnaiah has said that instead of Shakti and other Hindu deities, only Jesus is real God. The pastor has also said inappropriate things about Mother India.
Responding to BJP’s allegation, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has said that whatever has been recorded in the audio, Congress has nothing to do with it. It is the mischief of BJP which has become more desperate after the success of Bharat Jodo Yatra. Jairam Ramesh said that the BJP and the central government want to crush the spirit of the India Jodo Yatra. This is a completely bogus video. We have released everything that was said during the conversation. The related tweet has nothing to do with him.
Accusing the BJP of breaking the country, Ramesh said that we are uniting people, because India is being broken through economic inequality, social polarization, political centralisation. He said that Bharat Jodo Yatra is like Hanuman and it will bring Sanjeevani for the Congress.
