MP News: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister to Unveil 108-Foot Statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar

MP News: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to unveil a colossal 108-foot tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya on September 18th in Omkareshwar, a sacred temple town housing one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. This towering monument, named “Ekatmata Ki Pratima” (statue of oneness), pays homage to the 8th-century philosopher, a revered figure in Hinduism.

Development of Omkareshwar:
Omkareshwar, located approximately 80 km from Indore along the banks of the Narmada river, is undergoing development to become a global center for the Advaita Vedanta philosophy promoted by Adi Shankaracharya. The unveiling of the statue is part of the initial phase of this ambitious development project.

Description of the Statue:
The monumental 108-foot statue portrays Adi Shankaracharya as a 12-year-old boy and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Adi Shankaracharya, originally from present-day Kerala, is believed to have arrived at Omkareshwar as a young monk and received education from his guru Govind Bhagwadpad during his stay in the religious city. He departed from Omkareshwar at the age of 12, embarking on a journey across the country to spread the Advaita Vedanta philosophy and share its tenets with people.

In addition to the statue, the development project encompasses the establishment of a museum named “Advaita Lok” in Omkareshwar, an international Vedanta institute, and the creation of an “Advaita Forest” covering 36 hectares within the town.

The unveiling of the 108-foot statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar marks a significant cultural and spiritual milestone. This initiative aligns with the broader plan to transform Omkareshwar into a center for the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, fostering spiritual and educational growth in the region.
