No one can save your husband: Former Bengal CS’s wife receives death threat letter

Former West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhay, who is currently serving as the chief advisor to the Chief Minister, has received a death threat through a letter. The letter was sent to his wife Sonali Chakrabarty, vice chancellor of Calcutta University. In the letter, the attacker had mentioned that her husband will be killed and to add to that, the letter also mentioned that nobody can save him.

“Madam, your husband will be killed and nobody can save the life of your husband,” the letter read.

A complaint has been registered with Kolkata Police and a search for the sender of the letter has been initiated by the local police.

A 1987-batch IAS officer, Alapan Bandyopadhya is known to speak very little. During his tenure as chief secretary, he was known for going by the rulebook.

He was the link between the Centre and the TMC government during the Covid-19 review meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers.

Bandyopadhyay, born in 1961, did his schooling at Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission and was a good student, ranking 3rd in the final exam. He is an alumnus of Presidency University, where he did his graduation in political science. He then did his masters at Calcutta University.
