One MLA, One Pension: Punjab govt’s initiative to save crores

One MLA-One Pension Bill of Punjab Government has been approved. According to this bill, one MLA will get only one pension. Till now, the number of times a person became an MLA, different pensions were added for the same number of times. After the implementation of this ordinance, the revenue of Punjab will also increase.

At the same time, there have been some MLAs who have been opposing even before the implementation of ‘One MLA-One Pension’. The government believes that the government will save about Rs 100 crore in 5 years. That money will be used for the development of the state.

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that there will be a saving of about Rs 20 crore in one year. It was a big demand of the people of Punjab that ‘One MLA-One Pension’ should be implemented in Punjab.

More than 100 former MLAs were taking more than 1 pension

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that there were more than 100 such former MLAs who were taking more than 1 pension. If we have come into politics with the intention of serving, then we can survive in 1 pension also.

Cheema said that the government is trying to reduce those expenses which are unnecessarily burdening the revenue. For the betterment of the state, the Punjab government will continue to take such public friendly decisions.

Before the implementation of ‘One MLA-One Pension’, many former MLAs and current MLAs were also opposing this decision of the government. In this matter, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that former MLAs should think about what work is being done for the betterment of Punjab. If the government takes decisions in the interest of Punjab, then the government should support it. When a new law is enacted, it is natural to protest.

All the guarantees given by the Punjab government to the people will be fulfilled. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that an MLA gets a salary of Rs 25,000. At the same time, a minister gets a salary of 50 thousand rupees. The Finance Minister said that after taking all the meetings and allowances, an MLA gets around 80 thousand rupees.

In Punjab, the highest pension is made by Parkash Singh Badal, who was CM for 5 times. He get a pension of about Rs.6 lakh. However, he had refused to take pension a few days before the commencement of this ordinance.

Apart from him, former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who was 6-time MLA, Lal Singh, former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur get 3.25 lakh, five-time MLA Balwinder Singh Bhundar and Sukhdev Dhindsa get a pension of Rs. 2.25 lakh. They also get separate salary, pension allowances as Rajya Sabha members. This time Captain Amarinder Singh has also lost the election, so he too had to get a pension of lakhs which will now stop.
