The first batch of Indians stranded in Sudan left in an Indian Navy ship for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information on Tuesday (April 25). India launched Operation Kaveri on Monday to evacuate its citizens from violence-hit Sudan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted photos of Indians aboard INS Sumedha. During this, people thanked the government for taking them out of Sudan and were seen holding the tricolor in their hands.
Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “The first batch of Indians stranded in Sudan leaves under Operation Kaveri. INS Sumedha with 278 people is going from Port Sudan to Jeddah.” Many children are also included in these people coming from Sudan. India has deployed two C-130J military transport aircraft at Jeddah and INS Sumedha at Port Sudan as part of the plan to safely evacuate Indians stranded in violence-hit Sudan.
Fierce war continues in Sudan
After reaching Jeddah, Indians will be brought home. There are about 3,000 Indians in the whole of Sudan. The security situation in Sudan remains unstable with reports of heavy fighting from several places in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum. More than 400 people have lost their lives in the fierce fighting between the army and a paramilitary group here for the last 10 days.
PM Modi had given instructions to evacuate people
In a high-level meeting last Friday, Prime Minister Modi gave instructions to prepare plans to safely evacuate Indians from Sudan. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar recently discussed the situation in Sudan with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India is in contact with many countries including America, Egypt, United Nations.
