PM Awas Yojana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the first installment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to lakhs of beneficiaries in rural areas during an event in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on September 15. The PMAY scheme, aimed at providing housing to economically weaker sections, will benefit both urban and rural populations. During the event, 26 lakh beneficiaries will participate in the Griha Pravesh ceremony, marking their entry into newly constructed homes.
Significant Financial Support for Rural Beneficiaries
According to Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Prime Minister Modi will release ₹2,745 crore to beneficiaries under PMAY. During an online meeting with state Rural Development Ministers, Chouhan highlighted that the funds are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable housing across rural India. The Prime Minister will also interact with PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) beneficiaries during the event.
Target to Build 2.95 Crore Homes by 2024
The Rural Development Ministry has set a target to construct 2.95 crore homes by March 2024 under PMAY-G. So far, 2.65 crore homes have been completed, and the program continues to progress rapidly. Around 10 lakh beneficiaries will receive their first installment during the Jharkhand event, with acceptance letters for the financial year 2024-25 distributed to eligible individuals.
Griha Pravesh for 26 Lakh Beneficiaries
A total of 26 lakh beneficiaries will celebrate Griha Pravesh on the same day. Minister Chouhan mentioned that the scheme has been simplified to ensure maximum reach, with many restrictive terms and conditions removed. For instance, people owning motorcycles, fishing boats, and refrigerators are now eligible, and the monthly income limit has been increased from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000.
Required Documents for PMAY
To benefit from the scheme, applicants need essential documents such as an Aadhar card, voter ID, PAN card, caste certificate, income certificate, age certificate, ration card, mobile number, bank account details, and passport-sized photos. The government’s focus remains on achieving its goal of housing for all.
