Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: BJP Questions Congress Leader’s Remarks Following Sam Pitroda’s Resignation

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: In the wake of Sam Pitroda’s resignation from the Congress party due to his controversial remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised concerns over Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s recent comments, alleging a pattern of offensive language within the party.

BJP Questions Congress Leader’s Remarks Following Sam Pitroda’s Resignation

Reacting to the controversy surrounding Pitroda’s remarks, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury refrained from condemning the statement, instead describing it as Pitroda’s personal opinion. He remarked, “We have Proto Australoids, Mongoloid class, Negrita class of people. Hai to hai (It is how it is). In the demography of our country, regional features are different. What someone said is his personal opinion but it is true that some people are white, some dark.”

Poonawala suggested that Chowdhury’s words exemplify a broader mentality within the Congress party

BJP’s national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawala, criticized Chowdhury’s comments, asserting that they were offensive towards Indians. Poonawala suggested that Chowdhury’s words exemplify a broader mentality within the Congress party, drawing parallels between Pitroda’s remarks and Chowdhury’s comments. He questioned whether the Congress party would take action against Chowdhury, referencing his past controversial statement about Draupadi Murmu, where Chowdhury referred to her as “Rashtrapatni.”

Sam Pitroda’s initial comments, made during an interview where he discussed India’s diversity, had stirred significant controversy. Pitroda had remarked, “We have survived 75 years in a very happy environment where people could live together, leaving aside few fights here and there. We could hold a country together as diverse as India, where people in the East look like Chinese, people in the West look like Arab, people in the North look like white and maybe people in the South look like Africans.” Following widespread backlash, Pitroda stepped down from his position as the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress.

The BJP’s scrutiny of Chowdhury’s remarks highlights the ongoing debate over language and inclusivity in Indian politics, particularly within the context of sensitive topics such as race and ethnicity.
