Amit Shah reviews Manipur situation, cancels Karnataka visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has canceled his visit to Karnataka scheduled for Friday (May 5) to keep an eye on the deteriorating situation after the violence in Manipur. According to sources, taking the situation in Manipur seriously, the Union Home Minister has decided to cancel his visit to Karnataka. According to the program released by the BJP, three programs of the Home Minister were fixed in Karnataka on Friday. These included one meeting and two road shows.

Sources say that in view of the deteriorating situation in Manipur, the Ministry of Home Affairs is constantly monitoring the situation. Home Minister Amit Shah has been continuously reviewing the security situation since Thursday (May 5). At present, 1500 paramilitary forces have been deployed in the state in view of the violence in Manipur by the Central Government. Along with this, 55 pieces of army have also been deployed in Manipur.

What is the Manipur government saying on the violence?

After the outbreak of violence in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that every possible effort is being made by the government to maintain law and order in the state. The government is committed to the safety of the citizens and public properties of the state. A day before the Karnataka tour was cancelled, Amit Shah held a meeting with Manipur CM N Biren Singh and Chief Ministers of other neighboring states.

The Home Minister also discussed the review of the situation with the higher officials of the Center and the State through video conferencing. In view of the violence in Manipur, internet has been banned in the state till May 8. Along with this, the operation of trains in the state has also been banned. Not only this, along with imposition of curfew in 8 violence-hit districts, shoot-at-sight orders have been issued for miscreants.

What is the matter?

A procession was organized on May 3 against the demand for the inclusion of the majority Meitei community in Manipur as a Scheduled Tribe. Violence broke out in the state following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ organized by the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur. This sudden violence engulfed many districts of Manipur. Taking immediate action, the government deployed Assam Rifles and Army troops in the state to control the violence.
