UP News: The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to shift its focus to Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections in 2027 after registering a thumping win over Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and in Assam and Puducherry.

UP News-Bigger Roles For Shah And Bansal

According to media reports, BJP is likely to give direct and bigger roles to Union home minister Amit Shah and national general secretary Sunil Bansal to recalibrate the caste arithmetic in Uttar Pradesh to beat Akhilesh Yadav.

The party won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but delivered a below-par performance in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The performance triggered intense introspection within the saffron ecosystem.

For a party that once treated Uttar Pradesh as its most secure political fortress, the setback was not merely electoral but also psychological. The BJP may still remain the single largest political force in the state, but the aura of invincibility that surrounded the Narendra Modi-Yogi Adityanath combination has visibly weakened.

There is growing speculation that the RSS leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi may once again rely on the Shah-Bansal formula to revive the BJP’s grassroots machinery and neutralize the caste arithmetic that helped Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party stage a remarkable comeback.

Why BJP’s Uttar Pradesh Machine Failed In 2024?

The BJP’s Lok Sabha setbacks in Uttar Pradesh exposed vulnerabilities that had been masked by years of dominant victories. Despite welfare schemes, the Ram Mandir inauguration and Modi’s personal popularity, the party struggled in regions where caste mobilization consolidated against it.

The Samajwadi Party, under Akhilesh Yadav, successfully expanded beyond its traditional Yadav-Muslim core. By strategically accommodating non-Yadav OBCs and Dalit sub-castes while leveraging anti-incumbency sentiments, the SP disrupted BJP’s carefully crafted social coalition.

Amit Shah And Sunil Bansal

Amit Shah’s transformation from strategist to political heavyweight began in many ways with Uttar Pradesh. In 2014, when Narendra Modi tasked him with reviving the BJP in the state, Shah built a hyper-aggressive electoral model focused on caste micro-management, booth activation and ideological consolidation. The BJP’s stunning success that year laid the foundation for Modi’s dominance at the national level.

Often described as one of the BJP’s most effective backroom organizers, Bansal became the operational brain behind the BJP’s booth-level expansion in Uttar Pradesh. A former ABVP activist with deep organizational instincts, Bansal understood that elections in Uttar Pradesh are not won solely through speeches or rallies but won booth by booth, village by village caste cluster by caste cluster.
