Arvind Kejriwal: ‘Muft ki revadi?’ Delhi CM takes a jibe at BJP after Washington DC makes public transportation free

Arvind Kejriwal: After Washington DC announced to make public transport free, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in his latest tweet, took a jibe at the BJP, asked, ‘Should it be ridiculed as muft ki revadi?’

“Washington DC makes public transport free. Shud it be ridiculed as “muft ki revadi”? No. Providing free public services to its citizens without burdening them with additional taxes reflects an honest and sensitive government that saves money and provides facilities to its citizens “He tweeted about it.

Free bus rides in Washington DC

According to the Daily Mail, Washington DC will begin offering free bus rides on all routes beginning next summer, and other major cities such as Boston and Denver may follow suit.

According to a plan unanimously approved by Washington DC’s council last week, the city has decided to expand its transportation services. It also decided to waive $2 fares for metrobus riders within city limits beginning around July 1.

The war of words between the AAP and the BJP over the freebie culture began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned people against the’revdi culture,’ in which votes were obtained by promising free electoral freebies, while inaugurating the Bundelkhand Expressway in Uttar Pradesh in July. PM Modi has stated that this could be “very dangerous” for the country’s development.

PM Modi on Revadi culture

PM had said, “This Revadi culture is very dangerous for the development of the country. Those with Revadi culture will never build new expressways, new airports or defense corridors for you. Together we have to defeat this thinking, remove Revadi culture from the politics of the country.”

Arvind Kejriwal responded to the PM the same day, saying that providing free and high-quality services to the public was not free revadi. In fact, he claimed that free revdi included undue favours for certain corporations and ministers.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief stated that referring to such things as “free” is an insult to the common man. A month later, he claimed that free education and healthcare are not freebies, and that access to these two can end poverty in the country in a generation.

In a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP stated that freebies are intended to entice voters, whereas welfare is a policy intervention that promotes inclusive growth.
