BJP lambasts Mallikarjun Kharge over his dog remark during Bharat Jodo Yatra; demands apology

Members of the ruling BJP and the opposition engaged in heated debate today in the Rajya Sabha over the “dog remarks” made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge, however, has rejected the ruling parties’ demand for an apology and said that since the comments were made outside of Parliament, they should not be brought up in the house.

Rajya Sabha saw pandemonium and disruptions over Mallikarjun Kharge’s ‘dog remarks’ during Bharat Jodo Yatra

During the current Bharat Jodo Yatra, Kharge addressed a gathering in Alwar, Rajasthan. He then launched into a rant against the BJP, saying, “We (Congress) gave the country freedom, and Indira and Rajiv Gandhi lost their lives for the unity of the country. Leaders of our party gave their life. What actions took the BJP? Any of your dogs shed their lives protecting the nation? Has anyone in the family given anything up? No”.

The Congress Chief also lambasted the Government over the most recent incidents of hostilities between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh and charged that the government was withholding information from the general public.

He further said:

“He (Malliakrjun Kharge) should apologize to the BJP, the Parliament and the people of this country who formed the BJP govt. with absolute majority. He gave us a glimpse of his mindset and jealousy.”

Goyal added that Mallikarjun has no right to make provocative remarks and that Congress does not appear to remember past gaffes committed by the party. Mr. Goyal went on to say that it was also during their rule that China annexed 38,000 km of Indian territory, and the situation in Kashmir deteriorated.

Pralhad Joshi, the minister for parliamentary affairs, vehemently denounced the comments made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajasthan and claimed that they proved that he is a rubber-stamp leader. Kiren Rijuju, the minister of law, described the statement as offensive, unpleasant, and uncalled for.
