Delhi LG refuses to meet CM Kejriwal urgently citing busy schedule

LG v/s Kejriwal: In yet another spat between the Delhi LG and CM, the LG’s office reportedly resisted allowing CM Arvind Kejriwal time for an urgent meeting.

This comes after LG himself requested a meeting with Kejriwal to talk through some governance-related problems.
Notably, CM Kejriwal was asked by Delhi LG Vinay Saxena on Monday to discuss a few governance-related topics. The LG office quickly responded by stating that the latter is booked until 4 PM on Friday when the Delhi CM requested an appointment for Tuesday.

The office further stated that LG Saxena could only meet with Kejriwal after Friday night.

LG sends Kejriwal a letter

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, had already been asked to a meeting by Lt Governor VK Saxena on Monday to discuss the rules regulating administration in Delhi. Saxena requested in a letter to Kejriwal that they meet frequently so that the national capital could be governed in the best interests of its citizens and without “conflict.”

Saxena claimed in his letter that Delhi’s administrative rules “…are abundantly evident to any statecraft practitioner, attorney, or researcher, as well as to the average citizen. I’d want to invite you to a meeting so we can talk about some dated topics “.

The Constituent Assembly, State Reorganisation Commission, and Parliament, according to him, held significant discussions that led to the statutes controlling administration in Delhi.

Additionally, the Supreme Court has explicitly interpreted them on several occasions, he continued.

Saxena praised Kejriwal for “having started taking government in the city seriously” and cited many letters the chief minister had sent to him over the previous few days.

According to the LG, the chief minister routinely met with him up to October 2022 but thereafter expressed a desire to stop due to his focus on the assembly and municipal elections.

Letter From Kejriwal To LG

In recent letters to Saxena, Kejriwal questioned the selection of the Haj committee members, the MCD’s presiding officer, and the aldermen, asking if the LG’s role as “administrator” meant disregarding Delhi’s elected government.

Delhi Mayoral Election Disputation

The development occurs while the dispute between the Delhi BJP and AAP over the LG’s selection of the Presiding Officer to oversee the mayoral elections continues.

The LG named Satya Sharma of the BJP as pro tem speaker to conduct the mayoral elections on the very first day of the MCD house. He was accused by AAP of going against its advice and “illegally nominating” BJP officials to be aldermen.

According to the news agency ANI, Bharatiya Janata Party members who were demonstrating outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Monday against violence in MCD House were attacked by Delhi police using water cannons.

Parvesh Verma, a BJP MP, demanded that the Delhi LG suspend the councillors and reprimanded them for hitting the female municipal councillors. “We’ll keep protesting until CM Kejriwal suspends the corrupt municipal council members. How dare they strike our female municipal councillors; this has never happened before. We ask LG to suspend the goon council members “ANI cited Parvesh Verma as stating.
