Delhi Lt Governor orders probe into AAP government’s power subsidy

These days the problems of the Delhi government are not taking the name of lessening. LG VK Saxena, who has set up an investigation in matters of alcohol to education. LG has now ordered an inquiry into the electricity subsidy case.

According to sources in the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the Chief Secretary has been directed to investigate the alleged non-implementation of payment of electricity subsidy to consumers through DBT.

According to PTI, in the matter, the LG has asked the Chief Secretary to investigate the allegations, according to which irregularities have been done in the payment of subsidy amount to the power distribution companies.

The LG has sought a report from the Chief Secretary within 7 days. The action has been taken after a complaint received by the LG Secretariat raised the issue of ‘discrepancies’ in the power subsidy scheme of the Kejriwal government in Delhi.

Significantly, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) in its order on February 19, 2018 had said that the Delhi government may consider transferring power subsidy to consumers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Sources have claimed that the complainants, including eminent lawyers and jurists, have alleged that a huge scam took place after the appointment of directors and a private discom by the Delhi government. There was no immediate reaction from the Delhi government or the discoms on the allegations.

According to the allegation, Jasmine Shah, spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party and Deputy Chairman of Dialogue and Development Commission, Naveen Gupta, son of party MP ND Gupta, both of them were made directors in BRPL and BYPL and they have committed a big scam. It is known that the Delhi government gives electricity to consumers on subsidy. Free electricity is provided by the government up to 200 units in a month, then 50 percent subsidy is available on electricity consumption from 201 to 400 units in a month. Instead of consumers, the government pays this bill to the power companies from the exchequer.
