Himanta Biswa Sarma has been sworn in on Monday as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam. A 13-member Cabinet also took oath to serve the people of Assam.
Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of secrecy at a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.
Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath in Assamese.
The BJP leader was elected leader of both the BJP and NDA Legislature Party yesterday and then called on the Governor at Raj Bhawan and submitted a list of elected legislators owing allegiance to the NDA.
Notably, former CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, National Vice-President and Party In-charge Assam, Baijayant Jay Panda, state party President Ranjeet Kumar Dass, AGP leaders Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta and UPPL leader Pramode Boro accompanied Sarma to the Raj Bhawan.

BJP president JP Nadda was present at the swearing-in ceremony of Sarma, who is only the second BJP chief minister of Assam, succeeding party colleague Sarbananda Sonowal, who completed a successful five-year-term after being handed the state’s top job post the BJP-led alliance's victory in the assembly elections here in 2016.
Besides Nadda, former CM Sonowal also attended the ceremony. BJP chief ministers from Assam’s neighbouring northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland were present as well, news agency ANI reported. The new Assam chief minister is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
Of the 126 assembly seats in Assam, the ruling alliance secured 75 seats with BJP winning 60 while its alliance partners AGP got nine seats and UPPL six.
