To ensure that a joint candidate from the opposition side is put up from the side against the BJP candidates in Lok Sabha seats, leaders from several opposition parties have called for an early seat-sharing mechanism to be worked out. Ahead of the meeting, RJD leader Shakti Singh Yadav said, “Everybody will come and put their points forward. All the gatherings of the INDIA alliance have been successful. Everybody has one aspiration, that is, the country should come out of the feeling of fear.” Discussions will be held on topics including connecting with people, organising rallies with others, and developing door-to-door campaigns, which may vary depending on the state, according to panellist Raghav Chadha.
Ambition, Differences, and Egos, Essential for Alliance Success
“Every political party will have to sacrifice three things to make this alliance successful – ambition (‘mahatvakanksha), difference of opinion (mathbhed) and manbhed,” Chadha said. The conference, according to JD(U) leader KC Tyagi, will be highly important for campaigns and for expressing problems. “The gathering tomorrow is highly important for campaigning and for clarifying issues. Tomorrow’s meeting is to prepare for the start of the Jan Sabha on October 2. Abhishek Banerjee won’t be present at the meeting despite being ordered by the Enforcement Directorate to appear before it that day. Due to the fact that it has not yet proposed any members for the committee, the CPI-M will also be missing from the meeting.
Meet the 14-Member Coordination and Election Strategy Committee of I.N.D.I.A Bloc
The coordination cum election strategy committee of the opposition’s I.N.D.I.A bloc has 14 members – K C Venugopal (Congress), Javed Ali Khan (SP), T R Baalu (DMK), Hemant Soren (JMM), Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena-UBT), Raghav Chadha (AAP), Lalan Singh (JD-U), D Raja (CPI), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Omar Abdullah (National Conference), Mehbooba Mufti (PDP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), and a member from CPI-M. The strongest candidate from each seat would be chosen for the Lok Sabha elections, it was determined during the inaugural meeting of the Opposition group in Patna in June. The resolution released on September 1 following the bloc’s third meeting in Mumbai stated that the parties will run in elections jointly “as much as possible” and that seat sharing arrangements would be “initiated immediately” and completed “at the earliest.” The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) was created by more than two dozen opposition parties to compete against the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
