A political showdown is expected as Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives in Tamil Nadu late on Saturday night after wrapping up his celebrations of the nine-year anniversary of the government of Modi in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The leader of the state party unit in Tamil Nadu, K Annamalai, stated that he can “see a lot of fear” on leader Minister MK Stalin’s face after the visit, which seemed to have improved the party’s morale. Stalin remarked on what the BJP did for the state over the previous nine years. Annamalai responded by saying that the party would address this on Sunday and inquire as to what Stalin did for Tamil Nadu over the previous two years.
Annamalai talking to ANI said, “I see a lot of fear on CM’s face. Tomorrow we will answer all the questions of the CM and ask him what he has done for Tamil Nadu in the last 2 years. I hope he will answer our questions as well. The people of Tamil Nadu do not want DMK party to be in power and want Assembly elections to be preponed by 3 years so that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections can be held in 2024.”
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah has come to Tamil Nadu today. He met very important people from Chennai who have made Tamil Nadu proud. They are non-political people. They gave feedback about our government… It is a very unfortunate incident that when the Home Minister came there was a power failure. Untimely power cuts are happening after the DMK govt came to power. I hope the state government will take it seriously and ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” he added.
Notably, CM Stalin hinted on Saturday that the BJP would call for elections to the Parliament earlier as a result of its recent defeat in Karnataka, adding “BJP’s influence is reducing across the country…I am asking Union Home Minister Amit Shah to release a list of what the Union Government did for Tamil Nadu in the last 9 years.”
