Mani Shankar’s ‘Chaiwala’ Deja Vu! Assessing the Impact of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Panauti’ Jibe on PM Modi on 2023 Assembly Election Results

PM Modi

PM Modi: During a Tuesday poll rally in Jalore, Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi referred to Prime Minister Modi as a “panauti” and claimed that India’s loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup 2023 final was caused by his arrival.

History of Taunts

PM Modi has previously experienced similar taunts. Mani Shankar Aiyar called Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘chaiwala’ during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Even though Aiyar apologised for his remarks after receiving criticism, it’s thought that the BJP may benefit from them in the Gujarat elections. Many people think that Aiyar’s ‘chai-wala’ jab at Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections greatly aided the then-BJP prime ministerial candidate, who frequently brought it up in his campaign to emphasise his lowly upbringing and criticise the Congress.

Will History Repeat Itself in 2024?

Now the question arises that like in the 2014 elections, will the ‘Panauti’ jibe made on PM Modi ensure his victory in 2024 also or not? However In response to Congressman Rahul Gandhi‘s “panauti” (bad omen) jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.
