MP Akhilesh Singh appointed Bihar Congress chief

The Congress has appointed senior leader Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh as the new state Congress president in Bihar. With this appointment, the long-standing dilemma over the new leadership of the party in the state has come to an end. Not only this, the Congress has also made it clear that for a political comeback in Bihar, it will once again bet on the face of the upper caste leadership.

Akhilesh singh new president of bihar congress

Party’s Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal issued a statement on Monday evening announcing the appointment of Akhilesh Singh as Bihar Pradesh Congress President with immediate effect by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in place of Madan Mohan Jha. Jha had sent his resignation from the post of state president to the party high command after the party’s poor performance in the Bihar assembly elections held two years ago. But due to stalled political activities in the first Corona epidemic and then due to political reasons, the matter of appointing a new president kept getting postponed.

Senior leaders objected to the Dalit face

A few months before Kharge became the Congress president, state in-charge Bhakta Charan Das had almost convinced the party leadership to bet on a Dalit face to appoint a new state president. But many senior leaders of the state Congress like Kishore Kumar Jha raised objections in front of the high command, saying that for the political return of the party in the state, taking care of the social equation of the vote bank. Due to this, the matter of appointment of the State President was postponed and in the meanwhile the process of election of the National President of the Congress started. While in the meantime, the Congress leadership appointed Brijlal Khabri, the face of the Dalit community, as state president to revive the party in Uttar Pradesh.

After handing over the leadership of the party to the Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, it was considered natural that now in Bihar, the Congress would bet on the upper caste voters.

Akhilesh Singh, who was the Minister of State for Agriculture in the UPA government, has been one of the most active leaders of the party in the state since coming to the Congress. Although he was one of the dissident G-23 leaders of the Congress for some time due to the internal tussle of the party in the state, but separated himself from this group after dialogue with the leadership. In view of his participation and effective role in the political programs of the Congress, the leadership has given him the command of Bihar.
