There is no evidence that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was attacked in Nandigram. This is to say of the Election Commission. The commission made this decision based on the report of the state’s chief secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay, special police supervisor Vivek Dubey and special supervisor Ajay Nayak.

Earlier on Saturday, March 13, two reports were presented before the Election Commission in the case. The first report was given by the Chief Secretary of Bengal. In this, the car’s door was told the reason for the injury to Mamta. However, earlier on Friday, in the report he submitted to the Election Commission in due time, many information was not clear. Facts were mentioned in the report, but the reasons for the incident were not clear. It was also not known where and how this incident happened. The Chief Secretary had mentioned factual things like crowd pressure, tight road, iron pole on the right side of the road, shutting of the door, but the report was not reaching any decision.

Earlier, Special Police Supervisor Vivek Dubey and General Observer Ajay Nayak had informed the Commission in their report submitted on Saturday that the incident which caused her injuries was a security lapse.

Observers in their report sent to the election panel said that there was no evidence that Mamata Banerjee was attacked on March 10 under any conspiracy. He has also stated that as per the norms of the Election Commission no permission was taken for organizing Nandigram and hence no official video recording of the campaign was made by the Election Machinery.

Moedul Islam, a political analyst and assistant professor at the Center for Study in Social Sciences, says that if Mamata Banerjee remains bedridden due to injury, it can definitely prove to be harmful for the Trinamool. Trinamool may get sympathy votes due to the incident, but it is difficult to say how many will be there. Now this can be affected by the report of the Commission. Political analyst Vimal Shankar Nanda says that the strategy of plotting the incident can be beneficial as well as harmful. There is little chance that Trinamool will be able to take advantage of it.
