Nitish Kumar: In the midst of the political unrest in the state, Nitish Kumar resigned on Sunday as the chief minister of Bihar. At the Raj Bhavan, he submitted his resignation to Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

Nitish Kumar’s Decision

At this morning’s parliamentary gathering of the Janata Dal (United), Nitish Kumar declared his intention to step down. At the meeting, every JD(U) MLA supported Nitish Kumar’s decision, as the JD(U) veteran is expected to rejoin the BJP-led NDA in less than two years after leaving the coalition. Nitish Kumar will assert his claim to establish a new government in the eastern state with the backing of the BJP following his meeting with the governor of Bihar.

BJP’s Strategic Delay

It was previously stated that the BJP’s plan was to hold off on calling Nitish Kumar to step down. This morning, the legislators from the Bihar BJP met as well to talk about their plan. A legislative meeting between the JD(U) and the BJP is also anticipated to occur today, sources have told India Today.

Leaders of Bihar Mahagathbandhan’s ally RJD met on Saturday and gave supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav permission “to take any decision regarding the developments that may take place”. Manoj Jha, the national spokesperson for the RJD, declared this.

RJD’s Defensive Strategy

In an attempt to fabricate evidence, the RJD wants to give the impression that the party is not going out without a fight. Additionally, they are working on a plan and want to bring up the matter in the assembly when a trust motion is made during the budget meeting on February 5.

Bihar chief Vinod Tawde was present at a meeting held by the BJP leaders on Saturday that lasted until late in the evening. Although support for Nitish Kumar was not declared at the meeting, the party is reportedly aiming to make a comeback based on the cheerful atmosphere at the Patna office, according to news agency PTI.

BJP Presents Demands to Nitish Kumar

India Today was earlier informed by BJP sources that the party had presented Nitish Kumar with a list of demands prior to declaring support. The position of the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly and two Deputy Chief Ministers will be demanded by the BJP. After considering a few more variables, such as the transfers made on Friday night across bureaucracy, the letter of support will be extended.

Mahagathbandhan Government on the Verge of Collapse

Speaking on behalf of JD(U), KC Tyagi, the political adviser, stated on Saturday that the Mahagathbandhan alliance government in Bihar, which is made up of the RJD, Congress, and three Left parties among its members, is “verge of collapse.” “The alliance of INDIA bloc parties is almost over in Punjab, West Bengal and Bihar,” he stated to reporters.

With immediate effect, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been designated by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge as the party’s senior observer to oversee the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ and other party events in Bihar. This occurred amidst the state’s political unrest and worries that Nitish Kumar might break away from the Mahagathbandhan alliance.

BJP MP Signals Return to Power in Bihar

Following the party’s meeting on Saturday, BJP MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal informed reporters that the NDA had been given the “mandate to govern Bihar in 2020 assembly polls” and that as a result, the coalition would be “back in power”.

According to a BJP leader who was present at the party’s meeting in Patna on Saturday, everyone in attendance was asked to sign a “piece of paper” as a formality that might be necessary if the saffron party wanted to notify Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar that it was prepared to form a new government.

Congress President’s Efforts to Reach Nitish Kumar

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, stated on Saturday that he had attempted to communicate with Nitish Kumar and had written a letter to him. The Bihar chairman Minister was called by the party chairman two or three times, but Nitish Kumar remained “busy” and the two leaders were unable to discuss the political issue, according to a later statement from Congress.

With 79 MLAs, the RJD is the only party with more representation in the Bihar assembly and is a member of the Mahagathbandhan, which is in power. In the case that JD(U) quits, the ruling alliance would be eight members short of the majority in the parliament.
