CM Bhagwant Mann Asserts Clear Sweep; No Seat-Sharing Agreement on the Horizon
After a resounding victory in the 2022 assembly elections, where AAP won 92 out of 117 seats, securing nearly 20% more voteshare than the Congress, negotiations on seat-sharing between the two parties in Punjab have proven challenging.
Meanwhile, the opposition bloc INDIA faced setbacks, with two regional leaders openly criticizing the Congress and announcing their intention to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections without forming an alliance due to disagreements over seat sharing. Local Congress leaders in Punjab have also expressed dissent against an alliance with AAP for the Lok Sabha polls, citing concerns and grievances, including alleged false cases devised by AAP leaders. The internal opposition raises challenges for the Congress party as it navigates alliance discussions and party dynamics in Punjab.
