Protests and processions banned after Udaipur killing, Uttar Pradesh on high alert

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh imposed a high alert after the Udaipur killing, and has banned any kind of protests and processions after the recent Udaipur killing. After the gruesome killing of a tailor named ‘Kanhaiya Lal’ over his support of Nupur Sharma’s remark against prophet Mohommad in Udaipur, the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath imposed tight security in his state and banned protests over the incident to avoid communal tensions.

As per the Director General of Police (DGP), D.S. Chauhan, anyone making offensive remarks will have to face the consequences. Additional DG, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, said that permission would be needed for any religious or political function over the issue. Kumar said, “we are in touch with the central and state agencies for sharing intelligence inputs and threats and key details are being exchanged.” The UP DGP Devendra Singh Chauhan said that strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours and misusing social media to spread fake news.

“A high alert has been sounded and all officers on the field have been asked to keep a vigil to avert any violence or attempts to disturb law and order,” Prashant Kumar, ADG (law and order ) UP. The UP Police has spoken to numerous religious groups to maintain peace in the society. No protest or processions, whether in terms of political or religious should be carried out.
