Pushkar Singh Dhami to replace Tirath Singh for CM post in Uttrakhand

After BJP leader Tirath Singh Rawat resigned as Uttarakhand chief minister, the Uttarakhand BJP legislature party meets today to elect its new leader, who would then be sworn in as the state’s next chief minister. The meeting was chaired by Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

Tirath Singh Rawat resigned on Friday after less than four months on the Chief Minister’s chair. After returning from Delhi, where he was summoned by the top BJP leadership on Wednesday, he handed over the resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya about 11 p.m.

During the meeting two time MLA from Kumaon region (Khatima constituency) Pushkar Singh Dhami has been picked to replace Tirath Singh Rawat for the post of the chief minister of Uttarakhand. Dhami is a young leader who had been president of BJP youth wing in the hill state.

“May party has appointed a common worker, the son of an ex-serviceman, who was born in Pithoragarh, to serve the state. We’ll work together for people’s welfare. We accept the challenge of serving people with the help of others, in a short time span,” the new chief minister was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, after being elected to the post.

‘Dhami’s Father Would Have Been Very Happy’:

Celebration was witnessed at CM Elect Pushkar Singh Dhami ‘s residence in Khaltima. His mother, getting emotional, told the media that had Dhami’s father been alive he would have been very happy. His wife, Geeta Dhami said Pushkar Dhami performs his all responsibilities very well.

Swearing-in ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony of Pushkar Singh Dhami tol be held tomorrow at 5pm, the Raj Bhavan Secretariat said.
