Sanjay Raut Arrest: After hours of questioning in connection with the re-development of a chawl in Mumba Sanjay Raut, Shive Sena MP was arrested at midnight. Mr Raut, 60, alleged he was being targeted by the centre to weaken Team Thackeray.
Enforcement Directorate officials had searched Mr Raut’s home for the most part of Sunday after he refused to appear for questioning despite being summoned twice.
The probe agency team reached the home of the 60-year-old Sena MP at 7 am on Sunday. But Mr Raut was taken away to the ED office only in the evening. The investigators want to question Mr Raut in connection with the re-development of a chawl in Mumbai and related transactions involving his wife and close associates.
Sanjay Raut on Sunday said he won’t bow down and quit the party, shortly before being herded into the south Mumbai office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) whose team conducted a search at his residence in connection with a money laundering case. They (ED) are going to arrest me. I am going to be arrested, Raut told reporters outside the ED office after he was brought there from his Bhandup residence here. Zukega nahi (won’t bow down, Raut said, putting up a brave front.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena workers will stage protests against the arrest of the party MP Sanjay Raut, his MLA brother Sunil Raut said on Monday
He said Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena stands firmly behind the Raut family.
“The Shiv Sena and Uddhav ji stand solidly behind us. Our legal fight (over Sanjay Raut’s arrest) has begun,” the Shiv Sena MLA from Vikhroli told PTI.
