Sharad Pawar: The next gathering of opposition party leaders, led by Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, will take place in Bengaluru on July 13 and 14. The NCP representative referred to the June 23 gathering of leaders from 15 opposition parties in Patna, Bihar, saying, “PM Modi has become restless after opposition parties’ meet in Patna.”

Opposition Leaders Unite in Shimla to Counter BJP Ahead of 2024

The opposition leaders had already declared they would gather in Shimla from July 10 to 12. They had previously convened at Nitish Kumar’s home, the chief minister of Bihar. The gathering would be organised to set a plan of action for collaborating while fighting the Bharatiya Janata Party in each state in 2024. The opposition parties have committed to work together to campaign in the elections, according to Nitish Kumar, who described the discussion as “good.” Opposition leaders including West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee, Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal, Congressmen Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, and NCP leader Sharad Pawar were present in the huddle. However, disagreements broke out between the Congress and AAP over a Centre rule that limited the authority of the Kejriwal administration in Delhi. Following the meeting, the AAP issued a statement criticising Congress for failing to voice its position on the legislation. The AAP further stated that it would be challenging for them to join future opposition party gatherings when Congress would be present.

BJP Dismisses Opposition’s Gathering as a Political Photo Op, Calls for Stronger Unity

The opposition leaders’ gathering, however, has been dismissed by the BJP as a mere photo opportunity. “Today, all of the opposition leaders have gathered on a stage in Patna for a photo session. The BJP, NDA, and Modi ji are to be challenged, they want to say. On the day that opposition leaders met in Patna, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had declared in a public conference, “I would want to warn them that despite their efforts, unity among them is not feasible.
