“The Battle For Punjab’s Future Is On”- Amarinder Singh To Form New Political Party

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced on Tuesday that he would form a new party. If the solution to the farmers’ movement is in their interest, then they will also consider an agreement with the BJP in Punjab. It will also consider forging alliances with like-minded parties, including parties that have split from Akali groups. Last month, Amarinder Singh had met Home Minister Amit Shah, after which he had ruled out the possibility of joining the BJP. He claimed that they had met to discuss the farmers’ movement.

“The battle for Punjab’s future is on. Will soon announce the launch of my own political party to serve the interests of Punjab and its people, including our farmers who’ve been fighting for their survival for over a year,” Amarinder Singh’s media advisor Raveen Thukral said in a tweet.

“Hopeful of a seat arrangement with the BJP in 2022 Punjab Assembly polls if farmers’ protest is resolved in farmers’ interest. Also looking at alliance with like-minded parties such as breakaway Akali groups, particularly Dhindsa and Brahmpura factions,” he added.

Amarinder Singh, 79, was with the Congress for more than four decades and has been a prominent leader of the Congress party in Punjab. In September, Amarinder Singh was removed from the post of Chief Minister. After this Amarinder Singh had said that the Congress party has insulted him. Significantly, there was a lot of tension between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Tension between them increased after Sidhu was made the President of Punjab Congress. The Congress leadership also tried a lot to end this tension, but all the efforts were in vain. After Amarinder Singh stepped down from the post of Chief Minister, Congress has made Charanjit Singh Channi as CM.
