The issue of lapse in PM’s security in Punjab reached the Supreme Court, hearing tomorrow

The matter of lapse in the security of PM Modi in Punjab has reached the Supreme Court. On Thursday, a petition has been filed in this regard from the top court demanding a thorough inquiry into the lapse in PM’s security. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the matter. The matter will come up for hearing on Friday.

Chief Justice NV Ramana asked the petitioner to hand over the copy of the petition to the Center and the Punjab government. On the other hand, the Punjab government has constituted a high-level team to investigate the security lapse during the visit of the Prime Minister. The investigation team will submit its report in three days.

Senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for the Lawyers Voice organization, has raised the matter of lapse in the security of the Prime Minister before the bench of the Chief Justice. Singh said that it should be ensured that such incident does not happen again in future.

The petition has demanded a thorough investigation into the security breaches in stopping the PM’s convoy in Punjab’s Bathinda. At the same time, a demand has also been made to direct the Bathinda District Judge to take possession of all the evidence related to the police settlement for the PM’s visit.

It has also been said in the petition that as per the protocol, the car is earmarked for the Chief Secretary and the DGP or their nominated officers and they should join the convoy.

However, as per reports, neither the Chief Secretary/Representative nor the DG/Representative joined the convoy during the Prime Minister’s visit. It is clear from the events that private individuals were granted access to the Prime Minister’s Route. Others were incited to join the blockade, indicating a serious and unforgivable breach of national security by the state apparatus and the political establishment.

The petition said that the Punjab State Secretary and the Director General of Police assured the Special Protection Group that the way was clear. It was found that this was not true resulting in a precarious situation. It is submitted that the lapse in the security of the Prime Minister was clearly done with the connivance of the Punjab Police.

It was only the Punjab government which knew the exact route of the prime minister which is never shared due to high security reasons. It has been pointed out that this may be the biggest security lapse of any Indian Prime Minister in recent years.

The overall responsibility of ensuring the security of the Prime Minister rests with the State Government and the responsibility of providing security to the near by will be that of the Special Protection Group (SPG) as per the SPG Act 1988.

On the contrary, what was shocking was that the local police personnel present on the spot were seen escaping with the rioters who had threatened the security of the Prime Minister. The sequence of events and the facts mentioned above clearly indicate that the State Government and the State Police have completely failed to provide effective security for the Prime Minister.

According to reports, he is involved in endangering the security of the higher constitutional office in the country. This incident could have serious security implications for the personal security of the PM, so the court should take cognizance of the matter and ask the officers to keep all the evidence safe and hand it over to the Supreme Court. Also, order action against the guilty officers.
