Till 3.30 PM, 70% Voting Turnout In Bengal, 62% In Assam In Phase 1 Polls

Voting for the first phase of West Bengal and Assam assembly elections is being held today. Votes are being cast for 30 assembly seats in 5 districts of Bengal, while voting is going on for 47 seats in Assam. The Election Commission has extended the time to cast votes this time.

Voting is going on today in West Bengal and Assam for the first phase of voting. Voting is being held today for the first phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal for 30 assembly seats and 47 seats in Assam today. Voting has started at 7 am and will continue till 6.30 pm. In this phase in Bengal where more than 73 lakh voters will decide the fate of 191 candidates. Most of the seats in this phase fall in the Junglemahal region once affected by Naxalism. Tight security arrangements have been made for voting. The Election Commission has deployed around 684 companies of central forces which will guard 10,288 polling booths at 7,061 polling places. Social distancing norms are being followed during voting in Assam.

Like Bengal, voting is being held in Assam under the first phase today and till 3 pm, there has been 62.17 percent polling.

In Bengal, till 3 pm, 70.17 percent polling has been done. Talking on a region-wise basis, the highest turnout was in East Midnapore.

72.38 per cent in East Midnapore, West Midnapore 68.76 per cent in Jhargram, 72.10 per cent in Purulia 69.24 per cent, 68.03 per cent in Bakura (till 3 PM)
