Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar today on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar today on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. There he was received at the airport by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh. During his three-day visit, Shah will review security-related projects in Srinagar on the first day. Shah’s visit comes at a time when terrorists in Kashmir have targeted civilians in recent times. Amit Shah will go to meet the family of Police Inspector Parvez Ahmed. In June, Inspector Parvez, who was going to the mosque to offer Namaz, was killed by terrorists.

This is Shah’s first visit after the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was abolished and bifurcated into two union territories on August 5, 2019. Earlier, Shah had visited the state in 2019 just after taking over as Home Minister. He then reviewed the security of the Amarnath Yatra and took stock of the progress of central schemes.

A senior police officer said, “Shah will review security and development projects in Srinagar on Saturday and hold a public meeting in Jammu on Sunday.” Ahead of the Home Minister’s visit to the Union Territory, several traffic restrictions have been imposed in Srinagar, including those who drive two-wheelers to face stringent security checks. Apart from this, a total of 50 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams have been deployed for security purposes.

Recently, after killings of non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir, around 700 people have been detained in the union territory, some under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA). Meanwhile, a total of 26 prisoners from Jammu and Kashmir have been shifted to the Agra Central Jail under the Public Safety Act 1978.

According to sources, Shah will preside over a meeting of a unified command on security at the Raj Bhavan. The meeting will be attended by four Corps Commanders, top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other top officials, besides chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Armed Police Forces. After this he will participate in many political programs.

Amit Shah will interact with the people of Jammu and Kashmir Youth Club through video conferencing today. Apart from this, in the evening, the Srinagar-Sharjah International flight will also be launched. This will be a direct flight between Srinagar to Sharjah.

According to sources, Shah will also visit to pay homage to the martyrs of security forces and civilians killed in the recent terror attacks. A source in the Jammu and Kashmir administration said, “He is likely to visit the families of Makhan Lal Bindu, a Sikh teacher and a Muslim citizen, who were recently killed by terrorists.”
