Bohra Muslim

As Prime Minister, Narendra Modi participated in the program of Dawoodi Bohra Muslim Samaj for the second time. By the way, even when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had attended one of this programs. Modi had told them in the year 2018 in Indore that he had a deep relationship with the Bohra community. He had also talked about getting huge support from this Muslim community then.

The word Bohra comes from the Gujarati word voharu vyavahar, which means "trade". The Muslims of the Bohra community are generally associated with business.

Who are bohra muslims

People of Bohra community are Muslims but slightly different from common Muslims. More than 20 lakh Bohra people live mainly in places like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kolkata, Chennai etc. Like ordinary Muslims, Bohras are both Shia and Sunni. Dawoodi Bohras have more similarity with Shias. On the other hand, Sunni Bohras follow Hanafi Islamic law.

The population is also spread in countries like Pakistan, USA, Dubai, Arab, Yemen, Iraq. In Bohra society, the religious leader is called Sayyidna and the one who becomes Sayyidna, the Bohra community makes him the center of its faith. The tradition of spiritual leaders started from 1132 after the 21st and last Imam Tayyab Abul Qasim, who was called Dai-al- Mutlak says.

When the 52nd Dai-al-Mutlaq Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin passed away, his son Syedna Dr. Mufaddul Saifuddin became the successor from 2014. Saifuddin is the 53rd Dai-al-Mutlaq.

Origin of Bohra Muslims

The Dawoodi Bohra Muslims are affiliated with the Fatimid Imams who are direct descendants of the Prophet Muhammad. Ruled most parts of the Islamic world during the 10th to 12th centuries. 'Bohra' is a corruption of the Gujarati word 'Vahorau', meaning 'trade'. They are part of the Mustali sect, which came to India through missionaries from northern Egypt in the 11th century.

After 1539, when the Indian community became bigger, this faith moved its headquarter from Yemen to Siddhpur in India. In 1588 there was a split between the followers of Dawood bin Qutb Shah and Sulaiman. Today, the chiefs of Sulaimanis live in Yemen, while the Dawoodi Bohras have their headquarters in Mumbai due to their large numbers.

Difference between Dawood and Suleman Bohra

Despite being divided between the followers of Dawood and Sulaiman, there is no special ideological difference in the religious principles of the Bohras. Bohras have special faith in Sufis and shrines.
