The Maharashtra government has decided to verify the income details of beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. Under this scheme, eligible women receive ₹1,500 in monthly financial assistance.

Reason Behind the Income Verification Drive

Recent audits showed that more than 2,200 female government workers who didn't meet the requirements were getting benefits made for low-income families. This finding has made people doubt the honesty of many beneficiaries.

The Central Government has given the Women and Child Development Department of Maharashtra access to income tax return data to help with this problem. This will make sure that the benefits only go to women whose family income is less than ₹2.5 lakh a year.

Women must be between the ages of 21 and 65 and make less than ₹2.5 lakh a year as a family in order to be eligible for the plan. They also need to show proof that they live in Maharashtra and have an Aadhaar card.

The government made it clear that women whose yearly income is less than ₹1 lakh will not have to go through the process of proving their income. But people who take advantage of the plan dishonestly will face harsh punishments.

Over 2.43 Crore Women have Benefited So Far

Right now, more than 2.43 crore women have gotten help from this plan, which costs the state ₹3,700 crore every month. The government wants to keep this plan honest by stopping people from abusing it.

The state wants to protect public funds and keep the scheme's integrity by getting rid of people who aren't qualified and keeping a close eye on income verification.
