Private Schools In UP To Increase Fees

Private schools in Uttar Pradesh (UP) will be able to increase fees by about 10 percent this year. An order has been issued in this regard. It is believed that the biggest impact of this decision will be on the middle class. This decision has been taken after the decrease in the infection rate of Coronavirus.

It has been said in the order that taking the year 2019-2020 as the basis, under Section-4(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fees Regulation) Act, 2018, the academic session 2022-23 can be increased as per rules. As per Section-4(1) of the Act, the hike in fees cannot exceed the latest available annual percentage of the enhanced Consumer Price Index + 5 per cent of the fees collected from the students, which in total is about 10 per cent.

If any student or parent is not happy with the fees charged by private schools in the academic session 2022-23, then they can complain to the District Fee Regulatory Committee under Section 8 of the Act 2018.

Apart from this, the recognized school or any person, who is aggrieved by the decision of the District Fee Regulatory Committee, can complain to the Divisional Self-Financed Independent School Appellate Authority under Section 8(11) of the Act.

It has been said from the government that the order should be strictly followed. The concerned officers of the district should inspect that the private schools do not increase the fees irregularly.
