How to Tie Rakhi in Brother’s Wrist

Get up early in the morning on Raksha Bandhan, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Then fill the rice flour square and set up a small earthen pot. Mix rice, raw cotton cloth, mustard and roli together. Then prepare a puja plate and light a lamp. Place the sweet on the plate. Make your brother sit on a stool. The mango wood stool will be the best. While tying the raksha sutra, make the brother sit in the east direction. While applying tilak, the sister should be facing west. Then put a tika on the brother’s forehead and tie rakhi on his right hand. After tying rakhi, take off the brother’s aarti and feed him sweets. The elder sister blesses the younger brother and the younger sister bow down to the elder brother.

Importance of Raksha Bandhan

According to recognition and mythology, when Vishnu ji was going to Patal after promising King Bali, lakshmi ji had tied raksha sutra on the full moon of the month of Shravan . According to another legend, at the time of Rajasuya Yagna,  Draupadi tore and tied a piece of her cloth on the wrist of Lord Krishna as a raksha sutra. It was then that the tradition of sisters tying rakhi to their brothers began. On raksha bandhan, brahmins also pray for their hosts by tying rakhi to them. It is also considered auspicious to start studying on this day.
